Pokémon Go: Can Reshiram and Zekrom be shiny? Rates and how to get

Shiny Pokémon are rare versions of Pokémon in Pokémon go that have modified looks. They are called shiny because they generally add a slight sheen, making them stand out more than the normal versions. Zekrom and Reshiram have returned as Raid Hour Pokémon in December 2021, and they have brought their shiny versions with them!

Shiny Rates

Apart from the Pokémon that don't have shiny versions in the game, every Pokémon has a base shiny rate that tells you how often you'll see a shiny version. Both Zekrom and Reshiram are Legendary Pokémon. Although this information is unconfirmed for them, Legendary Pokémon typically have a shiny rate of 1 in 20 (about five percent). So, for every 20 Zekrom or Reshiram, you catch, you'll probably only get one shiny version.

How to Get

There is no way to force a Shiny version of a Pokémon to appear. Instead, players must simply play the game to hope to run into one. However, players can use a few tricks to make it easier to find them.

  • Play during events that feature Reshiram or Zekrom. The upcoming Raid Hours that feature these Pokémon will be hosted on Dec. 1, Dec. 8, and Dec. 15. Raid Hours don't boost the shiny rate for Pokémon, but they always show up in Tier 5 Raids, and Raid Hours force all Tier 5 raids to show up far more often. It's entirely possible to cross the path of dozens of Tier 5 raids during the Raid Hour if you explore the outdoors. This increases your chances of catching a shiny version if you defeat them.
  • Stock up on berries. The berries don't make it more likely to find the shiny versions, but they make it less likely for a shiny version to get away if you are trying to catch it. The last thing you'll want is to finally meet a shiny version but not be able to catch it.
