How to upgrade your Characters in Darkest Dungeon 2

Darkest Dungeon 2 is the sequel to Darkest Dungeon and continues its dark storyline while implementing fresh mechanics. In Darkest Dungeon 2, the player must assemble a party of would-be heroes. But instead of having a wide array of characters to choose from and manage, they will instead select a party of four.

Characters are much less expendable in Darkest Dungeon 2. If they die in a run, they will be gone from that run forever. Therefore, keeping your characters alive is a crucial aspect. One way to improve their odds of survival is to upgrade them throughout the run.

There are two different methods of upgrading in Darkest Dungeon 2. You can use mastery points at the Mastery Trainer in the inn to power up a skill. This typically increases its damage or adds various buffs to the attack. Mastery points aren't easy to come by, so you should consider carefully where to invest them.

The other method of upgrading your characters is to learn new skills at shrines. Once learned, players may swap what skills their character is equipped with to change their options during combat. These new skills are kept for future runs, allowing the player to choose from the beginning which actions their characters take into combat.
