Fortnite How to Mark Items – PC, PS4, Mobile, Xbox, & Switch!
We're taking a quick look at how to mark items in Fortnite for all of the different platforms you'll be needing it on! This is useful to know because not only has it been part of a challenge, you'll find that is helpful to share information with teammates on where exactly they'll find some equipment they need. You can also use this for pointing out exactly where enemies are on the map, and where you might want to travel next.
Marking items has come up more recently due to the Forged in Slurp challenge that has you "Mark an Uncommon, Rare, and Epic item." For this challenge, you will need to mark three different items of three separate rarities. It's really not too difficult, so let's take a look at how it's done.
How to Mark Items in Fortnite
You will need to know what key you have bound to Ping / Place Marker. Here's a look at the default options for each of the platforms:
- PC: Middle Mouse Button
- Console (PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox One): Left D-Pad
- Mobile: Map Marker HUD Option
Keep in mind that if you've changed some keys around, it might be unbound or something else. Make sure to go into your settings to verify what it is if you are having trouble.
To mark an item, you will need to target the item on the ground by moving your crosshairs so it is directly over it. Once you've done that, hit the button you have bound to Ping. This will mark the item so your teammates can see where exactly they will need to go to retrieve it.
Uses for Marking
Now, that's just one of the ways you can get some use out of the ping system in Fortnite. You can also use it for other things as well! First, you can mark just general spots on the map for your team to go to if none of you are using a microphone. If you double tap the Ping button, you will make a red marker that means an enemy is nearby (you can also bind this specifically). That is a whole lot more useful for when trying to figure out where someone is then yelling "he's over there!" a bunch of times.
If you want to be a good teammate, you should really get in the habit of marking when you are attempting to direct someone somewhere. It is also far more useful in the heat of battle, and you don't need to attempt to describe in detail what's going on or where someone is!
