All ways to die in Sims 4 & how to trigger them

There are plenty of different ways for players to bring the Grim Reaper around in the Sims 4. Of course, he'll only arrive if a sim on the current lot has died, but there are plenty of ways to achieve death. We'll go over every type of death that sims can experience and how to induce it.

Death by Natural Elements

  • Death by Fire - Any sim that stands in a fire for long enough can die. The easiest ways to achieve this are by lighting a fire in a fireplace or campfire and playing with the fire or cooking in the kitchen with a low Cooking skill. Once the room catches fire, as long as the sim doesn't leave the room or put out the fire, they can quickly die by fire.
  • Death by Drowning - One of the most well-known and easiest ways to kill off sims is via drowning. While previous iterations of the game just needed the player to remove the ladder from the pool after their sim began swimming, Sims 4 also requires the player to box the pool in with walls or fencing. Either way, once they are trapped in the pool, the sim will drown to their death.
  • Death by Electrocution - Electrocution is one of the harder death types to cause. Having a sim repair broken items when they are under the 5th handiness skill level has a chance to singe or seriously fry the character, but this will need to happen twice to kill them. For a better chance, try repairing an electronic item with a puddle on the floor in front of the object. With the Seasons expansion pack, this can also happen if a sim is standing out in a thunderstorm.
  • Death by Sunlight - Added by The Sims 4 Vampires expansion, this is one of the easier deaths to cause. Simply bring a vampire sim outside during the day. After their energy bar has completely depleted, being out in the sun will turn them into dust.
  • Death by Poison - This death was added by The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure expansion. Sims can slowly die from poison on their adventures if they encounter a spider, bee swarm, poison dart, scorpion, or poison gas. While it can kill sims, they can also cure the poisoning by checking the pile of bones in the temple and asking locals for an antidote.
  • Death by Freezing - Added by The Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack, players can kill their sims by leaving them out in the cold without the proper attire. Of course, this is the slowest method, as they will turn blue over five in-game hours and eventually crystalize. Getting the sim wet beforehand can speed up the process.
  • Death by Overheating - This was also added by the Seasons expansion pack. In order to achieve this type of death, put the sim in winter attire during the summer, and/or continuously tell the sim to warm themselves by a fireplace. Players can also turn the heat up high in the sim's house or do all of these around a heatwave.

Death by Objects

  • Death by Murphy Bed - This death, added by the Tiny Living Stuff pack, is caused by owning and regularly using a Murphy Bed. This isn't likely to happen, but the sim can be crushed by the Murphy Bed by simply sleeping in it or putting the bed down often. Eventually, a malfunction can occur.
  • Death by Wishing Well - Players with the Romantic Garden Stuff pack can kill sims by using the wishing well. While uncommon, sims who wish for eternal youth can die and become immortal as a ghost.
  • Death by Research Machine Exhaustion - Players with the Discovery University expansion can have their sims contribute too much knowledge to the research machine and become exhausted. If they continue their activities, it will kill the sim via brain drain.
  • Death by Steam - Death by steam was added to the game via the expansion of The Sims 4 Spa Day. Players simply need to have their sim stay in the sauna for too long. Once the sim receives the Supreme Steaming moodlet, direct them back into the sauna.
  • Death by Cowplant - Cowplants, the mysterious carnivorous plant sims can care for in the Sims series, is a dangerous item to own. Having the Cowplant grow into an adult will enable it to eat sims if it gets hungry enough. Sims usually have to be eaten by a Cowplant twice in a row to die, however, it can happen randomly if players aren't keeping an eye out for the Cowplant's cake lure tongue.
  • Death by Pufferfish - This death was added by the City Living. Sims who prepare a poor-quality Pufferfish Nigiri gain a 50% chance of being poisoned once consumed. This can kill sims, especially if they are already in a bad mood.
  • Death by Rabid Rodent Fever - Added by the My First Pet Stuff pack, players can give their sims Rabid Rodent Fever via rodent bites. To get the rodents to bite the sim, they must become enemies with their pet and ignore cleaning the cage. Once caught, sims have three days to cure the disease.

Death by Bodily Failure

  • Death by Laughter - While laughter is great for the body, too much can cause sims to die. For this emotion-based death, players will need to take their sim from playful up to hysterical. In order to do this, players can make their sim watch comedy, make jokes, take a bubble bath, and/or read comedy books until they reach the hysterical state.
  • Death by Embarrassment - Dying of embarrassment is one of the harder ways for a sim to die. Sims can become embarrassed by having their bladder fail, walking in on another sim in the bathroom, walking around in public with low hygiene, having an awkward conversation, practicing instruments around other sims with a low skill level, or being rejected during a proposal. Players will have to go out of their way to repeatedly embarrass their sim until they reach the Mortified moodlet.
  • Death by Cardiac Explosion - Sims can die from Cardiac Explosion if they become Enraged for too long. Sims with the Hot-Headed trait will become angry a lot faster, but completing mean social interactions, getting into fights, looking at angry paintings or sculptures, or eating anger-induced food can take the sim up a notch.
  • Death by Hunger - Another one of the easiest ways to kill a sim is to keep them from eating. If a sim doesn't eat within 48 in-game hours of being Hungry, they will gain the Ravenous moodlet. Wait another 24 in-game hours to kill off the starving sim.
  • Death by Overexertion - Overexertion is a more common death type among elderly sims, however, every sim has their limit. To cause this kind of death, players will need to keep their sim doing tiresome work, such as going for a jog, using weight machines, using a treadmill, boxing, woohooing, and cleaning dirty objects. Overexertion is the next moodlet step after Dangerously Tired.
  • Death from Old Age - While this is the slowest death in the game, players can achieve a death of old age by simply waiting out the clock. Avoid all of the other death types in order to reach the elderly stage in life, then wait until they live their full lifespan.
